VETERANS MENTAL HEALTH COUNCIL

Who We Are

Founded in 2013, the Veterans Mental Health Council is a Missouri-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors and committed to improving the lives of veterans and families impacted by military service and mental health conditions.

What We Do

The VMHC exists to reduce veteran suicide, strengthen access to support, reduce stigma, and ensure veterans’ voices are represented in the systems, services, and community conversations that affect their lives. We organize and conduct volunteer programs focused on veteran and family mental health support, suicide prevention education, resource navigation, community outreach, and partnership development.

We work with veterans, families, caregivers, volunteers, service providers, Veteran Service Organizations, mental health advocates, and community partners to identify gaps, share practical information, and help people find the right starting point. Our goal is not to create another layer of confusion. It is to make the next step clearer.

The VMHC does not provide clinical mental health treatment, crisis care, case management, medical advice, or emergency services. Instead, we equip veterans, families, caregivers, volunteers, and community partners with practical education, trusted resources, and clear pathways to support.

What We Believe

We believe veteran mental health is not just a clinical issue. It is a community responsibility. Veterans and families should not have to navigate mental health challenges alone, and support should be easier to find before isolation becomes crisis.
